THE WHEELBARROWRACE

The race with wheelbarrows is, without any doubt, the most spectacular and the hardest competition not only because of its athletic preparation but also because of the competitiveness it can infuse into people. It is a typical competition of Como which has really ancient origins. In fact, at those times, there was no village, no fair and no country celebration which this competition lacked in, especially at carnival time. The road way is race-track shaped and it must be run twice. The team consists in two athletes competing in race for the suburb which signed them on. They wear tunics with their own colors: they take it in turns in being carried on the wheelbarrow.
